Chinatown Memory Project

Due to the upheaval of the Indian Chinese community since Independence, many invaluable written sources, documents and items to understand the history of the community have been lost. Immersive Trails’ Trusted Heritage Initiative has conceptualized the Chinatown Memory Project to record the remaining oral histories and memories of the Indian Chinese community, whether living in India or abroad.
Immersive Trails is looking for an intern to join the initiative. This is a 6 month project (with a possibility of extension), driven by the intern under the supervision of the Immersive Trails team. The intern is expected to work closely with the Indian Chinese community and make a tangible record of their memories through photographs, interviews and other materials. This is a paid internship with mandatory research work for 10 hours per week. The information will be permanently open access online archive.
While the application is open for all, members of the Indian Chinese Community are particularly encouraged to apply for this position.
Anyone currently pursuing an MA or higher in Humanities and Social Sciences
Past experience of working in a memory/ethnographic project is not a must is preferable, but not mandatory
Great interpersonal skills that enable them to start and steer conversations and maintain relationships
Access to a stable internet
Passion for uncovering forgotten histories
Experience with communicating on social media
Strong sense of ethics
This is a paid internship with mandatory research for 10 hours/week.
